-Head of Largest Catholic Fraternal Organization Says "No Higher Calling" than Pro-Life

(KofC.org) The Knights of Columbus of Illinoisare proud to announce the results of the "Month of May Baby Shower" for the state of Illinois Knights of Columbus Councils and their Ladies Auxiliaries. The value of baby items collected, which includes cash donations, is $52,345.00! The "Shower" is held to benefit the Pro-Life Crisis Pregnancy Centers throughout the State.

One Council, from each Diocese, was chosen as having the most outstanding results based on participation and collection of goods. The list follows:

Belleville Diocese: Council #4234, Ladies Auxiliary, Alice McIntosch, President, Bill Husser, Grand Knight.

Springfield Diocese: Council #11707, Ted Thies, Grand Knight.

On behalf of our Knights of Columbus Illinois State Deputy, Dr. Logan Ludwig, and all the state of Illinois K of C family, they wish to thank all those Councils and Ladies Auxiliaries that contributed their time and efforts to this very successful and much needed program.

They are also pleased to announce the opening of a new Crisis Pregnancy Center on the westside of the Chicago area. The name and address is:

WomanCare Services, Inc.
3240 South Oak Park, Avenue

Laura Nelson, Director

The knights had the pleasure of attending their Grand Opening. Many familiar faces were in attendance; including Bishop Thomas Paprocki and Joseph Scheidler. Their facilities are first class and their motto is thought provoking, "caring for her . . . saving His children". They are located across the street from West Suburban Hospital. Drop them a line of encouragement or better yet, a donation to help them get started.

It was also reported that Christopher Columbus Assembly #2349, was instrumental in helping them get off the ground with both physical and financial help.

Speaking Tuesday at the 122nd annual convention in Dallas, the head of the Knights of Columbus told the membership that the pro-life fight is their supreme calling.  Supreme Knight Carl Anderson reminded the 2000 delegates of Pope John Paul's encyclical on the Gospel of Life, in which he calls Christians to be "a people of life and a people for life." Anderson declared, "We Knights have no higher calling. We must fight for laws that unconditionally protect the right to life!"

Anderson noted, "It is now more than three decades since we first took up the cause of restoring legal protection to unborn children." However the Knights remain committed to the fight.  "And we will not rest until the culture of death has been replaced by a culture of life!"
