PPFA's Feldt defends t-shirt, but some PP affiliates repudiate
(NRLC) The following is a press update from the Media Relations Department of National Right to Life. All inquiries from press should be directed to (202) 626-8825 or via email mediarelations@nrlc.org.
What follows is a link to a report about some local Planned Parenthood affiliates who have recently criticized the Planned Parenthood Federation of America (PPFA) for marketing "I had an abortion" T-shirts. http://www.lifenews.com/nat682.html
The page offering the t-shirt, proclaiming, "Planned Parenthood is proud to offer yet another t-shirt in our new social fashion line," is here: http://store.yahoo.com/ppfastore/ihadabt.html
Despite the criticism, PPFA President Gloria Feldt defended the continued sale of the T-shirt in a press release dated July 28: http://www.ppfa.org/about/pr/040728-abortion-tshirt.html
Feldt told the New York Post that the shirts let women "stand up for choice." The story is here: http://www.nypost.com/news/nationalnews/28219.htm
This is the same Gloria Feldt who, as president of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund, was allowed to address the Democratic National Convention on July 26, in which she attacked President Bush and urged support for Kerry-Edwards. Her speech is here: http://www.ppaction.org/ppvotes/gloria_dnc_speech.html
National Right to Life is the nation's largest pro-life organization, with 50 state affiliates and approximately 3,000 local affiliates nationwide. NRLC works through legislation and education to protect those threatened by abortion, infanticide, euthanasia, and assisted suicide.
